Quentin Tarantino ve svých filmech hrdě staví na čelní místo násilí v žánrově odvázané a zábavné podobě. Což je také důvod, proč je dodnes zhrzelý z toho, jak se jeho původní scénář k Takovým normálním zabijákům proměnil pod režijním vedením Olivera Stonea, který naopak neúnavně tepe společnost a pozlátko slavných, mocných a zvrhlých.
Přitom jedním z vzorů a tematických soukmenovců, které Tarantina inspirovali při psaní scénáře o sériových vrazích, z nichž se stanou mediální hvězdy, byl klíčový počin belgické kinematografie Stalo se v sousedství. Většinovému publiku méně známá satira Rémyho Belvauxe, Andréa Bonzela a Benoîta Poelvoordeho má podobu fiktivního dokumentu o sériovém vrahovi, v němž fiktivní filmový štáb propadá pseudo-kouzlu charismatického protagonisty a jeho brutálních činů.
Věčně káravý autor Oliver Stone udělal z Tarantinova scénáře Takových normálních zabijáků ikonickou a neúprosnou satiru dovádějící veřejnou oslavu vrahů ad absurdum skrze senzacechtivá masmédia i diváky hltající takto v přímém přenosu zprostředkované násilí a vybíjející si tím vlastní agrese a životní frustrace. Och, ty báječná Ameriko, země neomezených možností!

Quentin Tarantino proudly puts violence at the forefront of his films in a genre-care-free and entertaining way. Which is also why he is still disggruntled by how his original script for Natural Born Killers was transformed under the direction of Oliver Stone, who tirelessly bashes society and the glamour of the famous, powerful and depraved.
One of the sources and thematic contemporaries that inspired Tarantino when writing the script about serial killers who become celebrities was the seminal work of Belgian cinema, Man Bites Dog. Less well-known to the general public, the satire by Rémy Belvaux, André Bonzel and Benoît Poelvoorde takes the form of a fictional documentary about a serial killer, in which the film crew falls under the pseudo-charm of the charismatic protagonist and his brutal deeds.
Labeled as America's consciousness for his films criticising the cornerstones of US society, Oliver Stone turned Tarantino's script for Natural Born Killers into an iconic and relentless satire. He turns the public celebration of murderers into an absurd farce, where the sensationalist mass media and the audience devour the violence mediated in live broadcast, thereby releasing their own aggression and life frustrations. Oh, amazing America, the land of unlimited possibilities!
